Re: 3rd ave crowded day.
in the "rules of kiteboarding" there is nothing wrong with short tacking. it's perfectly legal. however, it's not very NICE. a good example is, say i'm about to set up to do something that i probably won't land. right before I commit to the trick the person riding towards me turns around right in front of me. now I can't do my trick because if I screw up, i'll crash into the guy.
often, the short-tacker doesn't realize he's doing it. how is he supposed to know I was about to do something? to keep from short tacking someone, it's best to always turn around when you are the person furthest out. that way you're guaranteed not to be in anybody's way.
if you DO short-tack me, there is one thing you can do to make amends. you need to do something super awesome so i'm impressed, or show me some awesome carnage so we can laugh about it later. that way, even though I didn't get to do my trick, I'm still entertained.
this is common practice at 3rd. often someone will short tack me and it's fully understood that the only reason they did so was that they could show me some crazy move and crash spectacularly. it's really pretty awesome.

Re: 3rd ave crowded day.
Few years ago, someone kept short tacking me on purpose so I went below wind of him and rode out when he went out and came in when he came in. I told him I could do that all day and I can short tack better than him. He stop short tacking me after that.adamrod wrote:in the "rules of kiteboarding" there is nothing wrong with short tacking. it's perfectly legal. however, it's not very NICE.

Well, it seems like every time I put my old Go Joe back on my board when I ride Alameda, people who don't know me just stay away from me and give me plenty of room, so I don't worry about people short tacking me
I was gone a couple of months from riding Alameda, now I don't recognize faces over there any more, except for Yuri, TJ, and Max.
Oh yeah, I wanna thank Ocean Rodeo for replacing my Go Joe after it broke during its warranty period, you guys rock!

Re: 3rd ave crowded day.
thats pretty funny. i can just see a bunch of advanced riders using those now to scare people away.
"hey, let's go kite over behind the island!"
"nah man, I think i see a go-joe, let's hold off."

if someone from OR can provide me a picture of some guy doing a sweet board off by holding the go-joe i'd really appreciate it. and don't tell me no one has ever done it. please. i'm SURE someone's done it.

Upper launch ethics (I’ll mention this here … again since I have seen this comment before ](*,) maybe it will sink in...)...
Please don't make your routine tack in and out right at the upper launch beach. I have seen several people doing this, and they “should” know better because they are jumping and pulling moves.. It is annoying for those who know what’s going on and kind of dangerous for the beginners trying to get in or out without ending up on the rocks.. The last thing they need is to worry about when that guy coming at them is going to turn around and what his/her kite is going to do when they jump right near the beach (Bastards!!!)… I say just run into them.. they should know better than to tack back and forth at the beach....
Yes, sometimes you need to go back and forth there in order to set up to come in, but that is not what I am talking about here…
If you want people at the upper launch to cum all over the bad a#* tricks you pull then do it up wind of the beach. There is plenty of space and even a couple of rock islands you can jump... yes I've seen someone doing this... pulling 360s over the rocks... Spooky...

Kiters definitly should not be jumping or doing tricks when kiters are going into the water. The reason kiters jump just below the launch is because there is little bit of flat water there.

Re: 3rd ave crowded day.
rude comment, reworded: the bay is large and there is no need to crowd up.
