I think the stability of the SLE/BOW style is do to the wing shape, specificly the warping of the wing combined with the sweep.
Simply put- a swept back wing is harder to fully wing stall..
therefore; even with sudden changes in the angle of attack, some portion of the wing is still flying... IE constant pull

C-kites dont have this constant curve, they pop and drop-

you can slack any kite with proper technique but bow kites always suck at kiteloops.

Adam, before ditching the Havoc's you might be able to tune them up for freestyle. The Rise (Yes Ocean rodeo! :) Has an attachment point adjustment that reduces depower and makes them act more like a C. When I want my face melted I use the front line attachment point closest to the wingtip and the stearing line attachment point closest to the center (farthest forward away from the wingtip) Hope that makes sence. I don't fly it in this setting very much unless its a really steady day with the kite right in the center of its sweet spot. This setting will decrease the shooting forward effect after a loop, I don't know if this is exactally the slack time we are talking about, but it makes the kite loop in fashion more akin to the North Vegas. Otherwise I prefer the improved de-power and shorter throw of the forward attachment point for the font line, i'll move the stearing line back for waves. I'd guess the Havoc has this setting possibility, so give it a shot. Just to throw this out there. The best way to get the most out of your kites settings and to understand how they differ is to take an advanced lesson from Donnie or Sandy in the Delta, you can land your kite to them on the ski and they will swap settings for you. I suggest this instead of a buddy is for one: what experienced kiter is going to sit on the beach and swap lines for you, and two: You can do this without the worry of staying upwind and throw some good raileys and loops with boat support so no need to hold back. Money well spent.
