I wont be making the go/no-go decision until Friday morning before I tentatively plan to leave for Pismo.
Here's my source (It changes when their weather model changes):

Click around for other sites. It tends to be fairly accurate for bay area sites and was accurate for central coast areas in years past when i frequented them more often.

Two friends and I will be heading down Saturday morning and staying through Sunday for the Expo and be throwing in a little 4-wheeling and surfing for good measure. Counting on good wind!!!

In looking at coastal forecasts here or for Pismo, I inclined to just look at the overall coastal map, for example:
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... mx=1&zmy=1
Instead of zooming in on a region close to shore as I've almost always found that it's just plain wrong almost all the time and provides dismal numbers. For Dillon Beach:
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... mx=1&zmy=1
Zoom in and click on a near-shore region:
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... it=0&lg=en
Much lower numbers, but on many days there when it shows the same pattern, I've been lit on a 7m and even flown a 5m. Not to say it is the rule for everywhere everytime, but it just seems better to get the forecast from the larger region...

Re: New 2010 Pismo Beach's KiteXPO Location
we use our local knowledge of weather and micro metorology (this comes from paragliding roots and chasing wind since 1994!) as well as noaa, diablo canyon weatherman forecaster (surfer, pretty accurate) and local aviation weather discussions.
.....and we still get it wrong! it's the weather guys!
When the high moves out, we will have plenty of wind!

I also like to look for sudden and sharp drop offs in the temperatures. I mean check out the extended forecast for next week, starting Monday the temp goes from mid 70's down to low to mid 60's fast. You guys are definitely (imo) gonna be love'n it come the begging of next week.BayAreaKite wrote:In looking at coastal forecasts here or for Pismo, I inclined to just look at the overall coastal map, for example:
