Hello SF Riders,
I am coming from Cleveland and will be in the Bay Area April 9th on business. I am staying at San Rafael and have free days on Wednesday, April 14 and Thursday the 15th. If conditions cooperate I hope to ride with someone at Crissy Field or another nearby location.
The Bay appears to possibly be a really sketchy place to ride. Hope to hear from you locals please and have some nice sessions. If you have average kite size recommendations that would be nice. Thanks!
Marine radios needed?
Best,
Hans

sketchy? nah. not really. sure, there aren't a ton of beginner spots, but for the intermediate to advanced kiter, I wouldn't call it sketchy.
you didn't really say how much you weigh or your ability level....but judging from the picture (assuming that's you), you're probably reasonably competent and are an average sized dude.
so, bring a 9 and a 12 or an 8 and a 10 or something around there and you'll be fine. i'd say overall average kite size is probably 10. but that's a pretty big generality.
san rafael isn't really close to crissy though. do you have access to a car? seems like if you're willing to drive you should get some good wind...

Thanks for the info Adam!
I'm 5' 6" or so and 145 lbs and am the subject in the pic.
Will definitely bring my Rebel 10M and maybe a Yarga 9M (rides small.) I'll have big and small boards. Would say I am an Intermediate rider.
Each region seems to have their best wind models (for Cleveland I like http://www.windfinder.com and lots of guys seem to use http://www.ikitesurf.com.)
A good friend is giving me a lift to Crissy.
Sounds like in marginal winds the tide can be an issue. All in all stoked to ride in SF!
:D
Thanks again.

Thanks. I will definitely check with the local riders on the beach before heading out.

Don't ride to close to the towers.. The turbulent wind will screw with your kite..
But going out past the bridge is an experience you should take home with you if you can.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the tip. Makes sense. As tempting as it may be (human nature?) I will keep my distance. Rotation can be a bitch.
Sunday looks nuclear. Where do you guys rice on a south?
--------------------
Sun...S winds 25 to 35 kt with frequent gusts to 40 kt. Combined seas 11 to 15 ft. Rain.

Alameda, which is in the bay, Half Moon Bay harbor, Ocean Beach and Doran beach...
All the sites are listed here, except Doran, I think, I need to add that, but it's at Bodega.
