I am devastated by the news. Extremely sad news, no one should die living the dream of kitesurfing.
RIP brother. All of my thoughts to your family and close friends.

Wow, this is so terribly sad. I, too, wish his family and close friends comfort. May we each remember this story as we assess the conditions we choose to play in. Peace to all.

My brother in law died two summers ago (cycling accident); the times now and for the way-too-long future are unimaginable for a family. When you leave the world early, you leave a very big hole...

RIP Scott...

We will be hosting a memorial for Scott in his home town of Kings Beach On Saturday May 29th at Noon in front of Safeway on the beach. Come on down and celebrate his life because thats the way Scott was. All welcome!! BBQ and drinks and they is always plenty to spread around. For those who did not know Scott he was a kick butt kind of guy. Everything he did was balls to the walls and he would not want anyone to hold back from his unfortunate event, so go out there and live life on the edge and enjoy everyday to the fullest.

I think the best thing we can do for Scott's family is to find answers and to make sure this never happens again. I for one will make this effort a priority.

As a lot of you know..Pam and I live accross the street from the "Shellgate launch" Dubbed Max's Launch.. under the supervision of Rebecca and Jane the two women that run the concession at the shack. We have earned there respect as keeping this launch safe and making sure that all that kite here know there safety systems and have physically shown at least one of our crew that they can do a self- rescue in the water.

If they cannot do a self-rescue?? They are asked that they not launch here..and they need this skill to stay alive to kite another day. We have our own website called the kiteloop that keeps the buddy system a priority.

Many kiters have flocked here and have joinded are crew because they feel safe here and will not be yelled at when there learning to kite..as we found this has done more harm then good.

We start out with a high five to welcome are new fellow kiter, then I personaly introduce them to the other members. This way they know there will be no "Disrespect" towards them, just because they are new to kiting. This is mostly the reason why we have so many members.

If you have a question call me 24-7 at (510) 814-1074. You have my Word as it is my bond !!, that if I can't answer your question?, I will find someone who will. thanks for reading this post and people lets stop the saddness with answers before this happins again and show Scott's family that we love are fellow kiters.

Max be with you  keeping it safe

This... but it is across the street from Safeway (not in front).

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Scott Michael Murray, aka Scottie. It is devastating news. My first and primary emotion is sadness and compassion for those who knew him. I'm not one of those people, but this still touches me deeply. And its not just because I love kiting and share a deep sympathetic bond for those touched by the sport, or just my respect for the fact that this occurred during one of, as Dr. Huxtable suggests, countless moments of Scott living life to the fullest. All of those things I respect and feel deeply about. But this also affects me because of something that Dr. Huxtable also said, Scott wouldn't have wanted this event to stop anybody from going for it. That is profound, I think. Thanks for sharing that.

So lets all the rest of us kite hard, or whatever you do, and enjoy it, and keep safety in mind too. Life is short so we have to play hard and be careful. (paradoxical realization)

All

Scottie was a close childhood friend of mine...we grew up in Bay Village, Ohio. We played soccer, rode BMX, skate boards and anything else that was new and exciting ...pretty much raised hell in a good way as young men do at that age...he was a phenomenal athlete and always pushed the limits of his personal efforts in everything he did. I hate to reconnect after 20 years by hearing about his passing, my heart is heavy and goes out to his family and friends. The picture of Scottie on the site is exactly how I will always remember him...to all those that responded to the tragedy and posted comments I simply say "thank you" for trying to protect a special life.

...good bye Scottie

Respectfully, Ski
