So much great advice, thanks!

Yesterday I decides to take a 3 hour lesson with Jon at KiteTheBay and it proved to me huge for my progression. Within half an hour I was not only staying powered but also easily going up wind. Looks like I'll be giving 3rd Ave a shot afterall now that I've proved to myself that I can stay upwind! One key thing really was just needing consistent wind that alameda just wasn't giving me.

Good god do my legs hurt though, who needs a gym?

Jox was that you at Treasure Island Friday afternoon? I was windsurfing there and saw a kiter with a boat near the "harbor" or whatever they call it. I've been kiting 7 times solo, done 3rd three times, launch from the north kiter "beach"
The key for me is wind, need enough to stay upwind otherwise I'm working the kite and heading downwind. At 3rd the wind picks up as you get out towards the channel, but then again that puts you out towards the channel. Near the launch its lighter and I tend to make up ground when I'm out further.

Dude an 11m will work perfectly. If it's nuking a day then either plan for a possible mid day lull or dont go. So far 80% of the days have been 11m

I have a 13 and a 9 and the next one I'm buying will be an 11.
I think 11 is perfect for the bay.
I'm 185 and riding a TT.

It's about the same rate as Nate when you figure the gear rental, fuel and time spent driving inland and the winds out on the bay are just a good if not better than Sherman. Info online.

That is hilarious.

Yeah that was me alright!

The 20mph wind out there is obviously a huge factor in my staying up wind, i was flying a 10m kite that the instructor had on his boat. I was kind of surprised there weren't any other kiters out there considering how small the chop was and how windy it was. I guess its a hard launch from land out there.

If you need assistance with downwinders, I would recommend NautiCat! Those people are great! the boat is awesome and the help is more than enough, they have your back if you get into trouble! With NautiCat Charters you can not go wrong!
