I am confused here... what is the point of having all that circuitry in the key if a regular dumb key can start the car? I know one purpose of the circuitry is convenience, but I thought there was also some security in there too.Jox wrote:I went to the Honda dealership and purchased one "dumb" key for $14. It doesn't have the electronic parts, but it will unlock the car and even turn it on if I needed. It fits in a little key pouch that is built into my wetsuit.
I tried the hardware store route with my new Outback, and two different stores said they couldn't even cut a dumb metal key because it was laser cut and they didn't have that tech. I have a valet key but I'm not sure if it has circuitry in it or not...
