To the OP, check out windalert.com for several of the main local spots - coastal (OB, Waddell) bay (Crissy, 3rd Ave, Alameda) and delta (Sherman Island, Benicia) for their average wind readings. I believe this is always free to access (I'm not currently a paid subscriber and I can still see it)

Direction matters too, of course. Generally NW is the standard usable wind at the coast, but that varies by spot.
