North winds are here in Sac. I'll be at Folsom Point all day with a full quiver of demo boards.....especially the DV8.

Hey Folsom Kite Boardings. I just mastered my upwind kiting skills and mexico and would like to start kite surfing on folsom lake.

I don't own any of my own gear yet. I flew 9m and 12m kites in Mexico. What should I expect on Folsom Lake? What mil wetsuit should I have?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Folsom Lake is up-n-down wind, cold water, sharp on your kite too. Be careful. Yesterday I was in my 5/4/3 with hood, gloves and booties.

The lake is pretty low at the moment. If it's blowing north go to Folsom Point, if SE, go to Granite Bay park.

Just posted a video of yesterday's session at http://www.youtube.com/litewavedave

Folsom's kite season is winding down. If you've ever wanted to kite here, tomorrow is the day. North winds forecasted, so Folsom Point will be the spot.
Note: This not the best place for beginners, but it's not bad.

Ripped my kite there, when it fell outa the sky in a lull. Taped it and sold it on E bay.
Riding used and closeout kites and boards from e-bay,craigslist,ikitesurf, and local surf shops. Now riding home made foils

Heads up... Folsom Lake is nearly at full capacity. No more rocky shore to tear up your kites and the launch area is covered in soft grass. It's looking to be 8-10m conditions. This will probably be Folsom's last epic day until fall.

If you're not ready for the coast, I would recommend coming inland to Folsom lake today. It's already setting up to be a great day. Winds are expected to be in the mid to upper 20s. The water temp is a lovely 73 degrees. If you come, bring all of your kites just in case and be prepared to pay the park entrance fee of $10. Note: Folsom is not the best place for beginners because the shore can eat your kite (rocky), but as long as you don't crash your kite on or near the shore, you're all good. Hope to see some new faces today. ;-)

Folsom was EPIC!!!
The lake is FULL, so there was not much beach to rig. Most were standing in the parking lot to launch/land their kites. I just self launched/landed off one of the wooden posts near the shore. Because of the wind direction and the high lake levels it made the winds a little weird near the shore, but once you got outside of the launch area and stayed upwind, it was perfect. The winds were surging during the day, so sometimes it felt light, but then it would pick up and blow hard, however it was wasn't really that gusty imo. I was perfect on my 9m. Awesome waist-high+ wind swells made surfing the lake soooooo fun and made for perfect ramps to boost to the moon or for pulling 540 backrolls. The biggest highlight for me yesterday was I finally landed a strapless backroll...

There were about 10+ kiters out. Some veterans, some newbs. The water was warm and like you said above "you could (almost) drink the water". I had a 3/2 full suit on and I was f'ing hot.

It's true... who knew that living in Sacramento pays off with year around nearby kiting. Oct-May for Folsom then May-Oct for Sherman. Thermalito After Bay (aka Thermo Lake) is also another nearby treat. And with a little added commitment it's not much farther to the Bay and the coast for more epic kiting or the mountains for snowkiting.;-)

Don't bring your bran spanin' new kite though because the rocky terrain is not ristop friendly. My 9M now is a frankenkite. Saturday was goodtimes  and almost tropical in comparison to January when my feet were frozen numb stumps.
