Re: Access rights for kitesurfing in the south bay
If you really want to preserve your access rights attracting more attention is not the right approach. Seeking some sort of validation by generating a lot more activity doesnt make sense.
Fly low, be respectful, don't attract the masses. I've seen it manifest in various ways over the years. Almost any activity in almost any place will be tolerated until it reaches critical mass and then it becomes a grueling fight for access.

Sorry nexus in most cases I would agree, but at least in the S. bay if you can be seen there's a good chance you will get kicked out. Doesn't matter if its 1 kite or 10.
Most of the waters or land around the S. bay are part of the don edwards wildlife preserve. They do not allow kites and will enforce that rule. It is better to find an area that has some hope of legitimacy before going out and then striving to create a real spot. Look at the maps and find the spots that are not in the preserve.
I've been kicked out of what I thought was a 100% legitimate spot and it was just me and one other person. We were kiting in the bay NOT in a pond adjacent to the preserve. We were told that launching a kite from that area could somehow harm wildlife.
In any new spot I wouldn't advocate bringing many inexperienced kiters. That would be a risk, but if you build an experienced local crew that can help establish it.
