Sherman Labor Day

Post by RomanRoamsRussia » Wed Aug 27, 2014 12:12 pm

Hey guys, new to the forum, out of Utah, some buddies and I are thinking of going to Sherman from SLC for labor days, will it be a fun circus/shit show or a bad circus shit show, and how is the wind looking sunday, monday, tuesday.

Cheers,
R.

I think you can assume a crowd over a long weekend like that, but hard to say whether it's going to go off this weekend.....nothing stellar showing on the long range forecast, but that can change.

Issues with traffic control often happen when folks come and don't know the setup, so if you do come please try to do your part to keep the launch area clear, get in and out of the rotation as quickly as you can and don't hang in the area just off the beach....keep it open for inbound/outbound traffic.

Sherman in circus mode can handle lots of folks as long as everybody's being mindful of the other guy, which includes plenty of non-kiters. If people don't watch out for the other guy, it does turn into a shit show. Which can be entertaining but sometimes not in a good way.

I think all is well as long as you don't break the salsa code NACF
Sorry, can't help spanking the old joke ... too much ...

I thought we weren't allowed to talk about the salsa code anymore.

By the way, I wonder if the stripper windsurfing chick that started the whole thing ever converted to kiting? No jokes about stripper poles/poleboarding.....stop. We covered that.

I have read the post on Sherman, I get the general gist of the motion of the ocean and protocols, I was more curious about the wind, as i will be doing a fun little 11 hour haul.
Thanks for the replies though

The crowds at Sherman have dropped off quite a bit lately, and I doubt it will be crowded even on this last hurrah of summer. The winds are gradually slowing as we head into September. There will be kiting every day if you don't mind mid to upper teens. It could easily still get into the 20's at times. Dawn patrol and late afternoon/evening sessions is usually the best wind.

Windstoked has forgotten the rare and unusual beachgoers that frequent SI on holiday weekends-- expect a circus with light wind and bring liquor to deaden the harsh reality you will observe as this "sub-group" packs the launch zone. (I'm heading to the mountains personally, so have a drink for me! I'll be back at the beach Tuesday of course...) If you make the drive, I hope you get some! ))MM
