Hi all,
I heard of the news of someone getting hurt yesterday at Alameda. It's an unimaginable thing that had happened. I recall posting this message a well back and just wanted to remind you all to observe this especially the newbies. It seems that lots of you don't pay attention to this. I rarely go to alameda but every time I go I usually do not like what I see. Most of the newbies there only own that one big kite. I agree that in summer maybe it's a good size to own but it shouldn't be the only kite to own if you want to progress in this sport. Quit your one kite mentality especially if it is a big one. Disappointing to know that the main shop there do not kindly advise you to use a smaller kite when the condition is less desirable to pull out that kite. Anyway use good judgement and stay safe. I read the last thread on the injury that the gentleman may have passed away? I juts can't accept that!!!! If the Boardsports doesn't want to police the beach. You should be the one doing it. If it is blowing (gusting up to the high 20's) you should not have any businesss to do with a big kite like a 12m. C'mon!

A handful of us do police our small launch downwind of the shack, kindly remind people that they are rigging too big, too close to beach goers when launching, help rescue boards and runaway kites. There were small incidents where we directly confronted the pig headed ones and deflate their kites.
But our small crew is not present there all the time.

Thank you Rey.
I have known you since my humble beginning via the forum. You always post valuable input into it. Thank you for saying something and do the right call to watch over the newbies. Yeah I feel there is not enough people doing the right thing of self policing. Not sure how we could have prevented this. It's tragic!!! Alameda is supposed to have safety buffer with that nice sandy beach yet things like this happens all the time!
Please be safe peopleand don't feel offended if someone tells you to rig a smaller kite. We know enough to not do the silly things. I can handle a bigger kite, depower and ride "lit" but that's not what I rig for. I RIG for when shit goes wrong. Will I be able to handle that out of control "too big of a kite?"
That's the mentality you should approach on!
Paul.

I talked one person out of it yesterday who didn't seem to have the skill set. And I heard that A LOT of people were talked out of riding at Crown Beach yesterday by Boardsports as well as others. It's very unfortunate that despite all the efforts the accident happened.
Free your mind and your azz will follow. GC

just a post in support of Boardsports....
I was taught there in 2012 and they absolutely recommended two kites. Also I have seen Boardsports and others at that launch actively patrolling on a heavy day, and discouraging launching large kites.
